Bird Key is one of the Sarasota area’s Premier neighborhoods in the center of Sarasota Bay. Linked directly to downtown Sarasota by The Ringling Bridge to the east of the key, and to St. Armands Key via the extension to the west. Notable residents of Bird Key include Jerry Springer and Brian Johnson, the lead man of the famous Rock Band, AC/DC.
The Key certainly is a boater’s paradise with half of the home sites on the waterfront. If you are looking at one of the “dry” properties, Bird Key is also home to the Bird Key Yacht Club and slips are available to members.
The newly completed Sarasota Yacht Club is just minutes away on St. Armands Key, Marina Jack in Downtown Sarasota is also in close proximity, for the competitive sailors, the Sarasota Sailing Squadron is less than 5 minutes away so there are plenty of storage and sailing opportunities available near-by this beautiful Island.
St. Armands Circle officers luxury shopping and dinning opportunities and is home to the famous Columbia Restaurant which opened its doors on the famous key in 1959. This makes Columbia the oldest restaurant in Sarasota and is a landmark you certainly do not want to miss.

As recent as 1959, Bird Key was a small 21 are island home to a single residence and was owned by John Ringling North, cousin of John Ringling. The 21 acre island was sold By North and was quickly expanded to the size it is today. Over 30,000 cubic yards of sand was dredged from Sarasota bay to complete the current development footprint.
