Lakewood Ranch Real Estate For Sale

For those of you not familiar with Lakewood Ranch, here is the development at a glance:

Development

Lakewood Ranch is a master-planned community and the second largest certified green development in the US. Just what is a master-planned community? Take 8,500 acres of agricultural land, divide it into gated communities, add a country club and polo club for good measure, garnish with business parks, a medical center, and lots of shopping and dinning opportunities, and there you have it, a master-planned community.

Lakewood Ranch consists of 9 primary communities or villages as they are called among the Lakewood dwellers; The Lake Club, Lakewood Ranch Country Club, Edgewater, Riverwalk, Greenbrook, Summerfield, Esplanade, and Central Park. Central Park and Esplanade is in the early development stage while many of the aforementioned communities are much more mature and there are more than 100 pre-existing Lakewood Ranch homes for sale today.

For those of you that desire a newly constructed home, there are building parcels available in many of the existing communities. Information on these opportunities is best served with a private tour of the developments to see which you may find to be a perfect fit.

Just across from the Medical Center is Main Street. It is a great place for fine dinning, shopping, working and even living. Yes living! Looking for a loft-style condo? You can find them on Main Street. Some of the other great places you will find on Main Street are the Lakewood Cinemas, 30 different boutiques, 7 fine restaurants, and even a Starbucks.

The History of Lakewood Ranch

In 1922, The founders of the Schlitz Brewing Company purchased more than 48 square miles of land east of I-75 in Manatee and Sarasota counties creating what is today Schroeder-Manatee Ranch, Inc. (SMR).

Today, along with the Lakewood Ranch development, the SMR farm division still produces sod and improved turf grasses, containerized and field-grown trees, premium Brangus and hybrid cattle, and citrus for both the juice and fresh-fruit markets. If you have had a glass of Tropicana Orange Juice, chances are good you have probably enjoyed orange juice that was produced on SMR farms land.

Development of the Lakewood Ranch planned community began in 1994. Since 2005 every home built here has used products and techniques that result in healthier, more energy efficient and environmentally responsible dwellings. As a result, Lakewood Ranch is the largest green master planned community in the U.S. This successful land management approach and strong financial planning make Lakewood Ranch not only a sound investment, but a great place to live, work, and raise a family.

The environment

For many home owners Lakewood Ranch is their Florida paradise. There are over 150 miles of sidewalks and trails interwoven between the 3,500 acres of natural habitat and wetlands, community parks, lakes, and nature preserves that are teaming with native wildlife.

Once you see how well nature has been preserved you will understand why Lakewood Ranch is a “green” community. But it does not stop there, using “green” building products and techniques, all the Lakewood Ranch homes meet the Florida Green Building Coalition’s Green Home Standard.

If you are environmentally minded, enjoy beautiful natural settings, and a friendly atmosphere, Lakewood Ranch is the community for you!
